Top 10 Truths to Set Yourself Free

We've all heard the old saying, "The Truth Shall Set You Free!", and having worked in the Coaching Industry for several years now, I can honestly say with conviction that the reason this saying has been around for so long is that it is totally, 100% accurate!

Helping clients overcome obstacles and eliminate their limiting beliefs may not always be an easy task, but I wouldn't dream of trading it for a second, because I also get to watch them blossom once they realize the power of their true potential.

Witnessing the moment when a client realizes their own power is the most satisfying and rewarding career experience I could ever imagine. It takes a fair amount of courage and grit to stand in the face of our own truth, and I deeply respect and admire those who muster the gumption it takes to see it through.

In order to help my clients uncover those disempowering beliefs, we have to get to the truth about what's really happening inside of them. Once they recognize and acknowledge all the ways that they are holding themselves back, they can begin making new choices that will lead them in a better direction.

Clients understand that my intention is never to judge, criticize or belittle them - but to empower them so they can achieve the results they are after in their lives. All of us are works in progress, and I myself must remain constantly on the lookout for these things to crop up in my nature from time to time. With that in mind, I wish to offer you the following truths that I have found to be the most powerful and effective ways of taking ownership over your own true power.

The Top 10 Truths to Set Yourself Free:

  1. Get out of victimhood (as quickly and as permanently as possible!) - Learn to take ownership over everything in your life; the good, the bad and the ugly. Nothing you could do would be more powerful or empowering than this. You cannot change your life, discover your potential or achieve what you want to achieve as long as you are holding onto victimhood. Nothing changes until you change!

  2. The world does not revolve around you (I'm sorry to have to say it!) - Stop making everything about you. It's not about you! What it's about is what you are bringing to the table, what you have to offer, how you are using your talents, skills and abilities to help others, and what you are doing to support, encourage, uplift and inspire the people around you. The people who are the most miserable are the ones who are constantly focused on themselves. Letting go of the need to be at the centre of everything is one of the most freeing experiences you could ever imagine.

  3. Your life conditions are a direct result of what you have sown - If you don't like where you are, figure out what got you there and go change it as quickly as possible! You may not even be aware of it, but anything in your life that does not meet your own expectations is something you have the power to change. If you can't change it, then you can change the way that you feel about it. Every wrong turn we make in our lives becomes an opportunity to learn and progress if we choose to pay attention.

  4. You are your only hope for a better tomorrow - Stop waiting to win the lottery, meet the right person or waiting for a magic pill that will make you skinny or wealthy or successful. You already possess everything you need to succeed. Learning to rely on yourself and your own resources will not only make you more powerful and happy, it will also make you fearless and unstoppable. Believe that you are capable of anything!

  5. No one in the world who is going to make you more complete, worthy or valuable than you already are - You do not need a partner, a title or anyone else's validation, apologies, approval or acceptance. Go and figure out what makes you happy and be that. No one else can know what is right for you or what is truly in alignment for you than you. There is a universal law that covers this one basic truth, and the law states that you must be willing to become the person that you need to be to attract the person you want to be with. Otherwise, why would they want to be with you?

  6. Stop trying so hard to protect yourself - You are not a china doll and you won't break if somebody rejects you. Holding on to the idea of certainty is just going to keep you stuck and afraid. You are here to experience and enjoy your life and to get the most out of it, you have to be open to new people, places and situations. Trust that you have the resources and the skills to manage whatever comes your way.

  7. Stop being a people pleaser...please! - It's honestly so inauthentic, so fake, so pathetic and just downright revolting. The whole point of being unique after all, is to offer the world your particular perspective, your individual thoughts, ideas, talents and abilities. Trying to deny them or stifle them or mask them or resist them goes against your purpose and ultimately against your own true nature. If you want to experience true freedom, you have to learn to let all that stuff go.

  8. For the love of heaven, stop with the negativity already! - It isn't the job or the responsibility of the world to make you feel comfortable, happy, safe, contented or successful. That's your job. Quit complaining, back talking, gossiping, judging and dragging other people down. You get back what you put out, at least most of the time, and when you don't, learn to accept that it isn't about you. As long as you remain focused on things that you have no control over, you're going to be miserable and alone. Learn to focus on the things you can control, and concentrate on being the best person you can be. Everything else is a waste of your time.

  9. Learn to deal with what is in front of you now - What you need in the here and now is only available to you in the here and now. No amount of analyzing, worrying, regretting or resenting anything in the past is going to give you what you need in the present or the future. Let It Go. Seriously. Whatever happened to you is over and done with. So why keep referring back to it? Move on so that you can move forward with your life.

  10. Stop doubting yourself and your abilities - You are as capable as anyone else on the planet. The only thing that separates you from those you envy is the beliefs you hold about yourself and the story you keep telling yourself over and over and over. If your current story is not empowering you, it's time to create a new one. Pick a story that empowers you and inspires you and makes you feel strong and confident in yourself and your abilities.

The greatest source of strength we have is in our ability to take ownership over our own lives. We can never become successful or be able to sustain that success without first being willing to learn and to grow. One of the most powerful ways to prepare ourselves for the responsibility that comes with success is to learn to take inventory of our own thoughts, beliefs and behaviours, and to do an honest assessment as to whether or not they are valuable enough to be worth keeping.

Every individual on the planet has the same amount of capability buried within them, but as we go through life we have a tendency to develop limiting beliefs that hold us back from achieving all that we are capable of. The only way to break through those limiting beliefs is to begin questioning them and replacing the ones that are no longer serving us in a positive, helpful or constructive way.
